Because we offer an all inclusive service, and because you get us for the entire day, we go where you go. If that means we get to the venue and stay there for the whole day, great. If it means we are at the bride's house, then the groom's parents' house, then the ceremony venue, before heading out to a nearby park and a coffee shop for portraits and candids of the couple, before finally arriving at the reception and dance location, that’s perfectly fine. Plan your day for you and we will follow. Remember, we are here to capture your day, how you want it.

Absolutely. It’s your wedding, and it is essential that you do it your way. However, we always caution people about having a friend or family member photograph their wedding. A wedding is a momentous occasion, full of important moments that can’t be recreated or photographed again. Additionally, most wedding venues offer challenging lighting and shooting conditions, making getting great photographs difficult to impossible without the right experience and equipment. The risk to having a friend or family member photograph your wedding is that if they aren’t experienced with photographing weddings, the odds are high that their photos will underwhelm you. This can lead to bitter disappointment for you and a damaged relationship with your friend or loved one. Finally, it takes your loved ones out of the moment; they are no longer present as a guest to witness and participate fully in your wedding. Instead, they are trying their hardest to get great photos for you, unless, of course, they get sucked into the excitement of the day and just stop taking photos altogether.

This is why we recommend hiring a professional photographer. This way, you can be guaranteed that your photographer has the right skills, equipment, and mindset to get the job done.

Yes! Obviously, we are biased, but we genuinely believe wedding photography is important. Capturing the story of your wedding and the special moments that happen throughout the day through the art of photography is worth it!

It gives you a visual and permanent record of a significant moment in your life and the life of your family. Wedding photographs and albums become heirloom items that can be passed from generation to generation, allowing the story of your love to be told and remembered as if it happened yesterday.

Hiring a professional wedding photographer ensures you don’t have to stress about your photos. A professional will be able to capture your wedding and all the moments, big and small, and the details so that you can remember the whole day for years to come. You can be guaranteed results and won’t have to worry that your uncle Ned forgot to charge the battery on his camera.

This is a common problem that many parents struggle with; fortunately, at Maple Bacon Photography, we have many tactics and tools for capturing authentic smiles from your kids. One of the easiest ways for us to capture unique portraits of your children is to let them be kids. We let you and your kids have fun, explore, and play. It is in these moments where your child has forgotten about the camera that we capture the best and brightest smiles.

Getting a picture-perfect family photo can be a challenge. However, using a professional photographer makes it a lot easier. At Maple Bacon Photography, we are experts in creating family portraits that make everyone look their best. We utilize various techniques and tools to achieve this, from expert posing to photoshop.

Let them be a toddler! The best way to get big smiles and photos full of personality is to let your toddler be a toddler. This may mean letting them explore or play with a favourite toy, especially for the first part of any photoshoot. Most toddlers are shy at first; however, if they see their parents relaxed and having fun with the photographer, they often relax and become more expressive. We often shoot our family photos in local parks or natural areas, where we can walk, stop at a playground, or explore the fantastic scenery that Calgary and Southern Alberta have. The time spent walking and exploring often helps to get big smiles from little kids.

So it happened, the forecast came true, and that classic Calgary Thunderstorm came rolling through at 3:00 PM, exactly when you were supposed to be getting your bride and groom portraits done. What to do now?

The first option is to wait it out. Often in Calgary and Southern Alberta, the bad weather passes within twenty to thirty minutes. If you have planned enough time for photos, we can wait it out, and you can sneak off to enjoy a few minutes of quiet time with your new spouse.

If waiting it out isn’t an option, we can move to Plan B. This is where having indoor locations to get photos, combined with our location scouting, comes into play.

Finally, if you are adventurous and up for some fun, we embrace the weather and capture some truly one-of-a-kind photos.

At Maple Bacon Photography, we have photographed people and events in all sorts of weather. From blistering heat to arctic cold and everything in between. If you are worried about getting great wedding photos in Calgary’s temperamental climate, there are some questions you can ask your photographer to put your mind at ease.

Is your gear weather sealed? Most professional-level photography equipment is designed and built to withstand heat, cold, and moisture. At Maple Bacon Photography, we have been caught in torrential downpours and freezing blizzards, and our trusty gear keeps on shooting.

Do you have a backup plan? At Maple Bacon Photography, we plan for the worst and hope for the best. We scout the locations for the weddings we photograph in advance, and one of the things we look for is where we could take photos if the weather turns. We also come prepared with smaller items like ponchos, umbrellas, or thin mittens if we anticipate lousy weather.

You can do many things to be ready if mother nature throws you a curveball.

If there is a chance that the weather could turn sour on your wedding day, plan ahead. Talk to your photographer about indoor and outdoor locations where photos can be taken. We are lucky in Calgary to have many great interior spaces to photograph; however, some of them do require advanced notice or a small fee. So be prepared beforehand to avoid any disappointment.

Purchase or rent a bridal petticoat or poncho. These run the gamut from cheap and disposable to luxurious and expensive. Whatever option you choose, make sure you know how to put it on and take it off.

Umbrellas – Purchase or rent matching umbrellas for you and your wedding party. These could be clear, white and black, or more fun and exciting colours and patterns. Whatever you choose, make sure it is easy to open, durable, and comfortable to hold.

When planning time for your photos, plan for more time than you think you need. If the weather is good and there are no hiccups, this will allow for extra photos to be taken. If the weather turns, we can be flexible and adapt, ensuring that you get photos of your wedding that you will cherish for decades.

Bring extra makeup. If it rains hard, or the heat and humidity get to be too much, it can help to have a bit of backup makeup to touch up your look.

Yes. We will work with the couple prior to the wedding to plan where we will shoot photos. Flexibility is important to us, and we will work with you, within reason, to get the photos you want in the places you want.

We love heading out on short walks in our city's amazing parks like Fish creek, or into the nearby mountain parks like Kananaskis, and then letting your family just have fun, and capturing moments along the way. Of course there are lots of other great options for getting family photos, from game night to skating, tobogganing to playing at the playground. We will work with you to capture your family in an authentic way.

Maple Bacon Photography offers an all-inclusive wedding package for large weddings and a small wedding package for a several-hour photo shoot. Both of these options give the couple flexibility of time and will create beautiful photos.
